iTunes 8 and iPhone 2.1
Hi all, just a quick post. iTunes 8 is safe to update to and use with your unlocked iPhones.
iPhone 2.1, which has now been released contains a whole RAFT of improvements – fixing the slowdown many people experienced since upgrading from 1.1.4, dropped calls, a lot of new features – improved iPod functionality, Genius playlists etc, and is an essential upgrade. Finally – bluetooth support is fixed. At last I can connect my iPhone wirelessly to my Audi head unit perfectly, phonebook and everything!
Our software is compatible with iPhone 2.1 – simply login to the website to get the latest software. If you don’t use Cydia or Installer, you can simply update using iTunes – nice and easy

i have iphone 2g i have gone to update music on my iphone via itunes and it started updating new software, however it is now coming up with a warning messgae on itunes saying that SIM is not supported as the phone is SIM FREE and was brought in Dubai. The phone now shows on the screen the usb cable saying it needs to be connected to iphone, and wont give me my home screen. How do i get this sorted?
You need to purchase our software, this will unlock it again for you.

your software worked very well, but when i upgraded to 2.1 my Parrot Bluetooth in the car no longer works ( rings but then mutes ) and the ipod function drops out for about 1 sec every few minuites on my Alpine head unit ? any ideas ???
Hi Gareth – I expect this is to do with a quirk of the 2.1 update, but try and restore your iPhone and then repeat the unlock. Failing that, have a look on apple.com/support to see if other parrot users have experienced problems. My Audi works great with the iPhone on 2.1, not tried with Parrot.

Sucessfully & painlessly updated from 1.1.4 to 2.1 on a pre 3G iphone. Everything works as it should except 2 things. Firstly I cannot access the phonebook via bluetooth in my Audi, which I could before, no real diasaster, just a bit of pain. Secondly and most importantly, I am getting fluctuationg signal strength on Vodafone in London which I didnt before, I regularly get ‘No Service’. Any clues?
Thanks
Hi James – what Audi do you have? Works fine with my R8 accessing the phonebook over bluetooth using the standard MMI.
Regarding no service – that’s not great. Does a restore (and subsequent unlock) of the iPhone resolve your issues? i’ve not heard of this problem before, although certainly the 2G iPhone signal strength isn’t as good as other units because of the metal back.

Hi all,
I stumbled upon this site after desparately looking for where and how to unlock my iphone.I was a bit skeptical at first since there were a lot of bogus sites;I’ve tried a few without success.
I decided to give it one last shot and I’m glad I did;the unlocking went very ’smooth’ and I’ve recommended this site to all my pals.
Meanwhile, I can’t seem to get the WIFI and BLUETOOTH to work.I’ve tried everything except hitting the iphone against a wall!
Help on this matter will be appreciated.
Hi – have you tried contacting support about this issue? Is your WiFi greyed out? And what about your bluetooth- the iPhone can only connect to bluetooth headsets, it doesn’t have the necessary bluetooth stack to be able to communicate with other phones, laptops etc.

Hi there, I have used your software to unlock my Iphone 2G 2.1 working fine.My wife is using it on Oange. Can I add Apps stuff onto it through iTunes? I tried buying stuff by going direct to Apps but it says that the phone is not associated with my iTunes acc (as I have the another iphone 3G associated with it)
Thank you for your response.

Hi
I have old iPhone which was jailbroken and unlocked. Its working brill. But I’m still on 1.1.4 – as I’d like to use magic pad to cut and paste and also update software via iTunes will i just be able to update itunes and thus install new version without knackering up my phone- still new to this iPhone myself but am teriffied I’ll end up losing all my contacts in my iPhone addressbook (not sync’d) – can you advise
Nicky – you’ll need our software if you want to update, otherwise you’ll just get locked out! Furthermore, we strongly recommend syncing your contacts with your PC or Mac before upgrading – its just sensible

Help! I have just unlocked (i think) my 2G 8G phone. Place the new SIM in and now, only the Emergency Keypad appears whenever I turn on the phone or asks me to connect to iTunes, saying a different SIM detected. Any advice?
Yep -nice and easy this. Just leave that sim in the iPhone, hold down home + sleep for 30 seconds and force the iPhone into restore mode, then restore the iPhone using iTunes. Then run our unlokcing software. Its because your iPhone was activated with a different sim card.

hi guys .
i have big prob with my iphone 8 gb
i’ve just did the update and i lose everything, how can i put back my stuff?
please give some help
i live in belgium
after the update hi sais that my provider card was not good and i have to put the original at&t card into
how i have to get back my iphone?
help please
Hi Angelos – have you contacted support about this? I expect they will answer your query when they get in the office on Monday. However – basically what you need to do, just keep your sim card in the iPhone (the one you wish to use), hold down home + sleep for 30 seconds, force iPhone into restore mode, restore using iTunes, then run the unlocking software. If you have upgraded from 1.1.4, then you will also need to connect to a wifi network and run Bootneuter (installed from Cydia).

Hi just a quick question here.
I will be buying my iPhone next week on either PAYG or contract but I also want to use my iPhone with different SIMS when I travel.
When updating the software from iTunes will you loose any data on the iPhone what so ever and using your piggyback and software will we still be able to use the iPhone to connect to WiFi/use all other services on the iPhone? If not, I would like some examples on what will I have to sacrifice.
thank you very much.

I just have to say, i have been unlocking with your software since V1.1.4 and it has alsways been straight forward. However, I just updated to v2.1 using iTunes and then used your unlock tool on Mac… This is the best, easiest and quickest unlock EVER.

Hi, Upgraded to 2.1 and ran PC tool – treat! Though initial problems included an application error when trying to run the PC tool. Initially thought it was a virus, but read on web that this has happened to others and to resolve I’d need to install .net framework software (even as an existing customer). Did so and all working fine.

September 21, 2008 at 6:58 am
Hi Gary – thank you for your suggestion. That would have been my next step – but it is now sorted! What had happened was that synchronising the Mail with the new 2.1 software on the iPhone, had actually created a new second Inbox within my Fastmail account itself! A knock-on effect in that the second Inbox created on the iPhone had synced back to Apple Mail on my computer and from there to Fastmail. So everything had become very muddled, hence the greyed-out box on the iPhone. I therefore had to go right back to the “head” of the queue – the Fastmail account on the web – delete the extra boxes the iPhone had created, set up the Fastmail account within Apple Mail on my computer all over again, reset the IMAP pathways, and then sync to the iPhone.
I have now switched off the setting that automtically syncronises the Mail box settings on 2.1 on the iPhone so that it doesn’t happen again. There’s something not stable about the syncing in 2.1.

Caroline – If you set up as new iphone, i think your MAC will back up the new iphone, but still retain your last back up with your sms messages on the MAC still. Go into itunes, preferences then devices. Just name your new set up, as a different iphone.

I haven’t tried setting up as a new phone Jody simply because I will then lose some very sentimental SMS texts that I really do want to to keep. But I guess it may come to that in the end, sadly. I have twice tried restoring from backup though. Interestingly, I’ve just tried to access the rogue Fastmail email account via my iPod Touch instead running 2.1 – and get exactly the same problem!

I upgraded to 2.1 using your procedures as usual, everything seemed ok, went to sync with outlook as usual and itunes turned the iphone off and caused chaos. Now the iphone freezes on all commands particularly using the home button. Can’t use the phone. Can’t Restore because like sync it turns phone off. I’ve deal’t with iPhone unlock for over a year and the service and back up have always been brilliant.
Sadly not the case this time, even if the problem on my phone cannot be cured on line I would have expected and email telling giving me the address to post it to or if I could take it into the London clinic (opening hours would be useful)
I’m getting the impression that you have had my money, so tough. I appreciate you may be busy but just an email….

Further to my post above, I have now Restored my iPhone, activated and jailbreaked it again – but I still have the same problem on this one IMAP account. A greyed-out Inbox with a notification that an email has arrived. I’m not sure what else to do now. The other IMAP account from the same company using the same settings works just fine.
Short of actually setting up the iPhone as a new phone, instead of restoring from my backup [which I don't want to do as I lose my SMS texts that I want to keep] I’m not sure what else to do?
Can’t I go back to 1.1.4?
Caroline
September 18, 2008 at 7:44 pm
I am finding 2.1 a bit of a nightmare and rather buggy. In Mail, one of my IMAP accounts has a greyed-out Inbox. Yet another IMAP account that uses the same provider [Fastmail] works perfectly so it is not a problem with their servers.
To get rid of the greyed-out Inbox I have to delete the email account and reinstall it via the iTunes “replace mail accounts on this iPhone” option. Then I can access the Inbox just the once – but when I leave it, it becomes greyed out again! The only way to access it is to go through the whole rigmarole again. I have even tried setting up the email account on the iPhone manually but the same thing happens. I can see an incoming email waiting in it, so it is downloading the number of emails waiting, but not allowing me access.
Is it possible to restore the iPhone without having to unlock it and jailbreak it again? Or better still – can I go back to 1.1.4 which didn’t have any of these bugs? [1st gen iPhone]

Warning. 3G will not work on T-Mobile price plans. Their settings are only designed to work with edge. If you have web and walk you won’t get 3G speeds as you have to turn it off. Other stuff works well though.

I have the original iphone, and I have the 2.1 update. And it’s done nothing. My iphone went black about 10 o’clock last night, and is still black. I can’t see anything on it, however I hear text messages, hear my phone ring. This is awfully painful.
Hi Marissa – just hold down home + sleep together until your iPhone reboots. All should be well.

I’ve done the upgrade from 1.1.2 to 2.1 and indeed had to re-unlock and re-jailbreak, but all is working fine now!
However I now want to FTP into my iPhone to change the SMS text alerts to something I can actually hear [am hard of hearing] like I did with 1.1.2. I used to have to have the BSD Subsystem and SSH installed from Community Resources to enable me to use Transmit FTP app to do this – does anyone know if I can still do this as I cannot find BSD Subsystem and SSH anywhere on Installer and Cydia now?
Caroline
September 16, 2008 at 7:27 pm
Can I really just upgrade my 2G iPhone still running 1.1.2 straight up to 2.1 just using iTunes Restore via my Mac?! That seems too easy. I thought Apple relocked the iPhone on every update? I am currently running it with Orange and want it to stay that way as they have just given me unlimited data, unlimited texts and a lot of voice minutes for £20 a month to stay with them.
If I do this, I then just use the iPhoneUnlockUK software to reinstall Cydia and Installer so that I can get SwirlyMMS again when the version for V2 software is out – is that right?
Sorry if I am asking obvious questions here – I just don’t want to brick my iPhone as I would hate to be without it. It’s the update straight from 1.1.2 to 2.1 that worries me.

Hi – If someone is on an O2 iPhone 3G contract, what would be the benefit of a jailbreak please? Is it simply the Cydia apps? Thanks.
Hi Gary – ’simply the Cydia apps’ – you do realise what fantastic applications you get which you’ll never get from Apple – MMS, Video recorder, ability to use iPhone as a modem etc etc, console emulators etc

I am new at this….if I upgrade to 2.1 will this wipe out the programs I have downloaded onto my phone or will they remain??
Thanks for the help…

HI Steve- what applications are these? If they are Apple ones they remain, you’ll lose your Cydia ones but Its easy enough to reinstall whatever apps you download, takes literally a couple of minutes!

Yep, been out for a while.

My iphone has frozen up, i have tried all the typical things, ie holding the home botton, and hard restet but still its frozen on the black screen with the custom logo. I will have to do a restore but am affraid because of the new release and not knowing if i will still be able to unlock the phone.
Don’t panic – hold down home and sleep for 30 seconds to force it into restore mode, then just restore the iPhone, and unlock it! Our software will always unlock it for you.

Hi Jody
Do we need to upgrade the iPhoneUnlock software prior to installing iTunes 8 and iPhone 2.1 software – or just carry on as if our phones were “normal”?
Thanks!

Hi,
I updated my unlocked iphone to 2.1. I thought that this update will lock my phone again. But it did not happen. My phone works fine and even the applications that I installed that used to crash earlier did not crash this time.

I’ve updated through iTunes with no problems, you do lose Cydia as with previous iTunes updates. But my iPhone is working as it was around 1.1.4 updates. That is you no longer have the annoying slow keyboard response when texting. Also the Contacts features is more responsive and useable not painfully slow. In short it cured the the small annoyances that where making me think of going back to my N95.

Confirmed from here too. Updated to 2.1 via iTunes 8, on a 2G iPhone. Of course, you will use Cidya (and associated apps) until these guys release their custom update. But, it’s just more proof that these guys (iphoneunlockuk) rock.

Could you give a Saturday 13th update as the comments are confusing I upgraded last time through Itunes and of course lost Cidya so rather than go through Itunes again I would like to know how things are going at your end so I could get it back

Apparently iTunes 8 and Vista do not get on and loads of people are having problems with it. Will we have to upgrade to it to restore to 2.1?
Mark – Apple have released a new version of iTunes 8 that fixes these problems now.

Hi
Do we have to do a restore? or can we directly download from itunes?
Thank you
We’ll post this info when its released – we’re not sure what the best course of action will be yet.
