Hi, I was just wondering when the Iphone 3G S would be available on Pay and Go in the UK?
I went into the store to collect it on the release date but couldnt collect it because the pay and go software wasn’t available from Apple to register it yet!
So they couldn’t sell it to me, i now have a brand new iphone just sitting out back reserved for me in the store!
Apparantley, there was the same problem with 3G release, you can only get it on contract for the first few days
Thank You so much for your help!
Tash.

OK, so I’ve updated through iTunes as instructed. Thanks to having previously unlocked withiPhoneUnlockUKs software my iPhone 1st Gen updated perfectly. BUT… (and this is nothing to do with iPhoneunlockuk)… is it just me or is anyone else’s iPhone running jerkily. It’s as if it’s become a PC!! Just seems to be slower and jerky in most cases. Any ideas?

Hi Jody,
Dont know if I have done the right thing, I have purchased your software unlock for 3G with OS ver 2.2.1 (5H11) Modem Firmware 02.30.03 pre installed. Running a piggy back sim, working OK out in the middle east on local PAYG. My understanding is that when OS 3 comes out I can upgrade through ITunes 8.2 to OS 3 and unlock the phone using the 3G software unlock. Stupid question do I have to have the piggy back sim and the local sim installed for this to work?
Thanks
Dave
Hi Dave – you DONT need the piggyback at all. Full instructions are in your account anyway.

My girlfriend is currently in the states and said she can get an Iphone 3g 8gig PAYG for the equivalent of £180 and bring it back in a weeks time. I’m currently on O2 could i get a US phone unlock it and then just put my Sim in and all will work?
Do we think 3g 8 gig phones will be available cheap in the Uk after the release of the 3Gs?
is it worth bringing one back at that price?
Definitely! They are £340 here. Yes you can unlock it – make sure you buy our unlock now in anticipation. Just put TBA in the imei number field.

Hi Jody i have the 1st gen iphone and was wondering with the OS3 upgrade what functions will and won’t work on my iphone or will they all work like on the new iphone.
Video and compass won’t work, nor does voice dialling, everything else does though!

Im using an unlocked 3g iphone I purchased already unlocked. I dont know how it was unlocked and I have a piggyback sim. When 3.0 comes out will I be able to purchase your unlocking software and unlock with that? Also maybe a silly question but I won’t lose anything already on my iphone will I like apps and messages etc?
Yes that’s right! Just purchase the software unlock now – its all good to do, then as soon as apple releases version 3.0 you can be unlocked, you won’t lose anything either!

Just logged into my account (not sure why, just on the off chance really ahead of 3.0 release) and found out that i shouldn’t have upgraded to iTunes 8.2 on mac!! Now when the update came out, i went straigh to iPhoneunlockUK to see if there was any notices but there was nothing so I upgraded. Since I don’t need to actually log in unless a new update is available (which it isn’t until after 3.0 is launched) I thought it would have made more sense to put things like this on the main site in a forum/news entry??
I don’t want to mess up iTunes or my library/playlists/settings, etc by uninstalling and then installing 8.1.1.
Is it safe to do so and exactly how will my mac/itunes/library/music, etc be affcted by doing your copy paste method in terminal?
I have to say you guys are normally spot on but this time only i’m a little surprised about the seemingly daft way of warning us of a serious “Do Not” by hiding it away in a login section where you would expect it to stand out a bit more.
Apart from that, great work. Any ideas? Does it mean unless i risk the terminal method I can’t yet upgrade to 3.0 in a couple of days?
Ryan – the point is it DOESNT MATTER IF YOU ARE ALREADY UNLOCKED as the version 3.0 software will be 8.2 compatible.

Hey,
Am looking at buying a iphone 3GS. I will be travelling to London on June 22.
Is there a place where i can buy the 16GB Iphone 3GS without a service provider tie up, unlock it and then use it in Bombay – India.
The service provider I currently use is Airtel.
Thanks.
PS.
Yep – o2. Cost is £440 for the 16GB and £550 for the 32GB. These are Pay as You Go (i.e. contract-free) prices.

Hi Jody
I am currently running your piggyback sim solution on my iPhone 3g with the latest firmware. I was wondering if i should update to OS 3.0 when its out on Wednesday. What are the implications?
Thanks
Make sure your account is ready for version 3.0, then yes you can simply update your iPhone, get rid of those nasty piggybacks, and run the software unlock!

Hi Jody,
O2s website says that internet tethering will only be available on their contract service, just ike visual voicemail. Does that mean that tethering will not work on other networks when it is unlocked?
I currently use Pdanet from Cydia to do this but it would be nice not to clutter the phone with unnecessary apps.
Don’t worry – we’ll figure out a way

Any idea how long it will be after the release of the new operating system that we will be able to download it?
Immediately – we’ll send an email to everyone as soon as it is ready.

im on vodafone contract at the moment with unlimited mobile data. if i use your service to unlock the iphone 3g s. will i be able to use my vodafone sim card? will i also be able to upgrade the software through itunes?
Yes you can use your Vodafone sim card. The iPhone 3GS software isn’t ready just yet though (the phone isn’t even out yet!) so you’ll have to use the O2 PAYG sim in the meantime. You use the instructions on our website to upgrade the software, usually its a simple case of updating with iTunes, sometimes you need to download a custom firmware from us.

Will the new 3.0 unlock require a piggy back sim?
No. Great news huh?

We’re getting a lot of emails from people wanting to buy an iPhone 3GS or iPhone 3G from the USA and then unlock it for use over here.
Don’t do it – they are a LOT MORE EXPENSIVE in the USA! Yes ‘$99′ for an iPhone 3G sounds cheap – but you have to sign up for a 2 year contract at a minimum of $50 a month – this works out at $1300 which at todays exchange rates is £800. An iPhone 3G on PAYG in the UK is £300.
An iPhone 3GS is even more expensive. Don’t bother people! Just get them from the o2 stores on PAYG and then use our software to unlock. This advice extends to our US customers also, if you can get to the UK, get an iPhone from here and unlock it, its much cheaper.

Will we be able to buy the 3GS without entering into an O2 contract?
Yes – just get one on PAYG. Prices are £440 for the 16GB and £550 for the 32GB

I’m a U. S. customer who uses a 1st generation iPhone on T-Mobile with a pay-as-you-go (no contract) plan. Is there a way for me to purchase the new iPhone 3GS and your unlocking solution without having to pay the large no-contract penalty in the U. S.? Thanks.

Its made such a dilemma though. What do we all do? Stick with the trusty unlocked 3G or jump in for the S.
Jody. Work your magic on OS 3 and get us all on there!
