    Hi,
I use TDC in Denmark. I bought a 3G in the UK, and I am trying to unlock it. I need a piggyback card, however, TDC only produces 64 bits chips sim cards, which are smaller than the O2 32 bits chips sim cards (I mean the chip in the simcard is smaller when is 64bits). Will your sim card still work? Have you tried this before?

Hi Jody, I have the iPhone 3G on a normal 18-months contract by O2 (locked). The reason I’d like to unlock it though, it would be in order to use it with a Greek SIM card I use whenever I go back to Greece. So the question I would like to ask is: How easy it is to fully reverse the iPhone in the “locked” state, every time I’m back in the UK ? Will that have any bad consequences on the phone ? What happens with the firmware updates ? Thank you !

    Hi,
I plan on buying a PAYG phone, does it matter if I start using it (and I guess activate it) on the o2 network before I unlock using your piggyback and software a few days later. Or should I not use with the O2 sim at all and just wait for the piggyback to come through the post.

    hi,
if i buy the iphone in the carphonewarehouse with the PAY MONTHLY basis and unlock it through your software, what happens for the contract?

Well you have to pay the contract obviously, your legally obliged to!

This is why we recommend buying the iPhone on a Pay as You Go basis, the cost of the iPhone initially is higher (£350) as its not subsidised, but if you buy one in-store on contract then you have a lower initial price (free - £99 depending on plan) but then have to pay a minimum of 18 months x £35 which is £630! So its much cheaper in the long run to get one on Pay As You Go

Hi. Just want to find out about the 3g iphone i got. Will the software activate + UNLOCK the phone for any gsm. Or do i need the piggyback sim for unlocking? And also, on the back of my iphone 3g, there is no IMEI number. Only a Model no, Fcc id:, Ic id:, and serial number. Wich one do i put in when you guys ask for the IMEI number??

    Thank you

Hi Johannes - just put in the serial number for the 3G.

The software activates, but you will need the piggyback to use it on another network

Hi, I used to have the 2g iphone which i got unloked via yourselves, I now have the 3g version, which once software is available i will also get unlocked. When my old one was unlocked you installed installer, is this also available for the 3g version?

    Thanks

hi - you can jailbreak this iPhone now just using our software and install the installer application. You will need to purchAse an additional license however.

Seriously what so I purchase, is it just the £19.99 DIY or do I have to purchase the £39.99 inc replacement sim. HELP!!!!!!!

I ordered the piggy back sim on Sunday night, I got no confirmation email to state that it will be sent out. I called the office first thing on Monday morning and was told that they need confirmation of the payment so I was asked forwarded the nochex email to the office and that I would receive a reply within a couple of hours, I had no reply so I mailed the office asking when the piggy back sim would be sent, the reply was that it would be sent out this weeks. The next day (Tues 28th Oct) I sent another email asking when it would be sent and again a similar reply saying: “it will be sent this afternoon or tomorrow”. Sent another email on wed 29th Oct asking the same question again but no reply at all this time. When I got home this eve (Thurs 29th Oct) I found a card from royal mail on the mat saying they couldnt deliver a package for me stating it was recorded delivery and need a signature and that I need to collect it from my local sorting office 48 hours later!! I’m sorry but this is not good enough guys, the package should have been sent out Monday afternoon. It is stated on the website that the piggy back sim would be sent out next day delivery, this may be that case but only if you actually send it the same or next day of the customers order. I had my 1st gen iphone unlocked by you guys and it was great thats why I came back to you for my iphone 3G unlock but this has left a very bad taste in my mouth. Sorry guys not good enough.

Hi just a quick question. I am after one of the piggyback sims (i am already a customer of yours and bought the previous versions of software) but i have heard that there are all sorts of problems with similar piggyback methods, such as losing network connection (No Service messages), losing 3g, Edge etc etc etc. Do your sim’s experience any of these problems? thanks. Also, i understand once you put them in they are really difficult to get out.

Hi carl - we have had one customer who found the sim card difficult to get out, but that was one customer out of thousands who have unlocked their 3g iPhones. The sims aren’t perfect but they don’t drop connection or 3g anymore than a standard, locked iPhone. The only issue is that when you go abroad, you need to put the sim card into a different phone first, pick up a network, then put it back into your iPhone. It’s a small price to pay though and they are a great interim solution until the 3g baseband is hacked.

How come you never answer the problems only the ones that give a postive response. I would like to know the answer to Alex’s problem. Because I must have that problem too.

David - support is for problems, this blog is not really accessed by support, just by myself intermittently. Anyway - Alex solved his problem, and that IS the solution. Unfortunately you do need to take another phone to pick up service when abroad and then put it back into your iPhone. The software unlock, still being worked on, will negate the need for that. Sim cards are a ’stop gap’ - we know of this issue when travelling to a different country and its a small price to pay for having an iphone on any network.

Hi, I just bought a iphone PAYG when I was in London last week, now I’ve returned home to Malaysia installed all the jailbreak software but its still not working on my network. How can I get it to work without coming back to London?

Do you have our piggyback sim card in the iPhone? If not you will need it.

this works great I have t-mobile on my iPhone. Thanks for the iPhone unlock team. Advice for you newbies if you really like the iPhone but you are on a non o2 network just get it done it’s simple and easy.

I tease my boss at work showing him my t-mobile logo on the iPhone as he changed network proflvider to get the phone but I told him just get it unlocked an not to go to o2 as I find there service leaves a lot to be desired.

Hi I am a Jersey Channel Islands resident too and I am also thinking about buying an O2 Iphone 3g PAGO phone

Will I be able to use this in my local Jersey telecom network, plus can i update my iphone as normal with this sim card?????

Yes you can - on all the above points!

Piggyback sim worked perfectly in the UK. However when I travelled to Spain recently the iphone didn’t seem to be searching properly and I had “no service”.
24 hours later I figured out to remove my sim from the iphone and put it in a friends phone where I did a manual search for a network and activated the sim on that network. Then when I reinstalled it in the iphone everything was fine. I had to go through the same process when I returned to the UK last night. Was wondering if anyone had a simpler solution?

Anybody know the settings I need to enter into my iphone so that I can get 3G working on Orange. ?
Yep - apn: orangeinternet, username: user, password: pass. All these settings are available in our unlocking area. Also make sure that data roaming is turned ON. And make sure you’ve used your sim card in a 3g phone before (i.e. so 3G is activated).

orange doesn’t give you a 3G sim if you don’t have a 3G phone with them already.

So even though you can have the 3G iphone unlocked it won’t run on 3G speeds..damn you orange!

I currently live in the Middle East (ah the expat lifestyle is great) and I’m visiting London later this week. I’d like to buy a 3G IPhone from you guys because the phone is not offered where I currently live (neither is the previous version of Apple IPhone). Can I buy a 3G IPhone from you guys and (a) will it work when I get back to the Middle East using my current GSM provider’s local and international roaming rate plans, (b) will I have full functionality for all features, and (c) will it look like just another normal phone to my current GSM network provider?

Hi Rick - if you purchase a PAGO iPhone from o2 or Carphone Warehouse, and bring it to our Upper Grosvenor Street address, we can fully unlock it for your carrier with all features for £60.00. This is cheaper for you to do than buying one off us unlocked.

    Hi Guys,

Surely you’ve been asked before, but, I’ve bought a 3g iPhone on PAYG and want to know if your unlocking sim card method also unlockes the handset to work on the 3 network? If so, will the 3 services work like skype and msn messenger and so forth that come bundled with 3 services?

Hi Pabs - I actually personally unlocked one for a customer this morning using our 3G unlocking solution (£39.99) on the Three network, so yes it does work (at full 3G speed also).

Regarding services like Skype and MSN messenger, these are all handset dependent. Fortunately the iPhone comes with an amazing thing called the ‘App Store’ which enables you to download 1000s of applications, one of which is yes MSN messenger, also Facebook Chat, and something called Truphone which enables you to make cheap international phonecalls over Wifi.
Click here to buy now and make sure you select 3G option

Hi, I’m on Orange with a 3G iphone and a PC. I purchased your piggyback SIM and everything was working great until I upgraded the iphone to 2.1, this in turn told me I needed iTunes 8 which I installed. The problem is iTunes 8 is now telling me that I have unauthorised SIM installed so I can’t sync etc. What can I do?? Thanks J
You just need to unlock it James

I went there to have my iphone 3g software installation fixed as I can’t seem to make it work..and Sam did a very good job. I’ve emailed Jody for some queries and she replied to my email very swiftly. Keep up the good work guys, YOU ROCK!

i wanted to ask some questions and hopefully you can help..
I want an iphone and im planning to get one from the US since my sister lives there and its definitely cheaper!
I live in the UK right now..
I understand i will need this piggy back sim to unlock it..
will the US iphone work here in the UK?
what else do i have to do to ensure that it works?

Hi there,I would be coming to the UK to pursue my studies and I am sorely tempted to get the iPhone whilst I`am in the UK

My question to you is therefore after purchasing an unlocked 3G iPhone from your company, will I be able to use it with my local telephone operator when I return back to Malaysia?

And secondly, after checking out the O2 website I have come to realize that there is a Pay & Go option. What does that mean? Does that mean that the iPhone is already unlocked and that it can be used with all teleco operators in throughout the world?

Thank you for your kind attention.

    Kind Regards,
    Paul

PAYG is still tied to o2. You will need to purchase a PAYG handset and then unlock it with our software so you can use it in MAlaysia.

I bought the piggyback SIM for my 3G iPhone - works fine, but iTunes doesn’t recognise the SIM when I connect the phone to my Mac, therefore I’m unable to sync with my Mac, and so can’t add new music, photos, apps from my laptop. Is there a way round this?

Yep - restore the iPhone to 2.1 WITH the piggyback sim card in, then unlock it using the unlocking tool

    Hi,
    I just have 1 question.
If i buy your software will this unlock the iPhone for any network worldwide? or just the UK networks? Because when I travel alot and I am using different SIMS worldwide all the time so I need to know if this software will help me here.
    Thank you

Hi Moe - it ‘ll work with any sim worldwide.

I want to use my iphone 3g on the 3 network, will this unlock work and will all functions work and am i reading this right, if i buy this i will get the software unlock for free when it is available.
    thanks

Yes it will work immediatley for you now on the 3 network - and you’ll get the complete sofware unlock free when its available.

  • Gary

    September 19, 2008 at 1:16 pm

Peter - It is simply an offer, iphoneunlockuk, would have to physically buy the iPhone for £399.99, then take the time to unlock it, so it would actually cost them about £420 anyway, they are entitled to make a bit of profit for their services and time yeah? some people will not want the hassle of going to O2 and buying a phone, then downloading the software, then having to do the unlock process themselves. If you are fairly savvy with PC or MAC, then I would advise you buy your iPhone from O2 or Carphone Warehouse and then buy the software. Just my personal observations and opinion.

    Hi,Whilst O2 offer 3G at £399 plus your £40 unlock equals ££439.
Please tell me why I should pay £530 for your new and unlocked £G ?
    Thanks

  • Sameer

    September 17, 2008 at 10:12 am

Does this mean that there is a Software unlock available which will let me use my I-Phone 3G on any GSM network?

Sameer - NO! This CLEARLY states that you CANNOT unlock the 3G iPhone for any network using just software. You HAVE to use a piggyback sim (currently).

  • James

    September 16, 2008 at 9:39 pm

    Hi,
to clarify on the 3g unlock, will software be required to unlock the phone as well at the piggyback sim? Or can i use the hardware and update via itunes with legit firmware? This is without the jailbreak. cheers

Yes you need our software also.

  • arnie

    September 15, 2008 at 2:22 pm

Unfortunately I ordered a turbo sim from a different company to piggyback in a nokia 6300 proir to investing in the iphone. It didn’t work so I am now waiting for an updated one from them to work on all phones. If that doesn’t work then I’ll order from these guys. However, big dilema, I have just spoken to vodafone about upgrading another phone and they tell me only unlocked US iphones work on their network (don’t see why). I think the hardware option is the best as it won’t invalidate warranty. Probably by the end of this week we should know more as the payg comes out tomorrow and no doubt they will be haced.

Arnie - don’t believe a word that people in Vodafone stores tell you. People seem to think that they’re qualified or something but really, they’re just college kids working in retail! You can use ANY iPhone on the vodafone network as long as its unlocked.

I’m in the USA at the minute and am thinking of buying an iphone. The sales guy in the shop said that if I plug a US 3G into my PC back in the UK apple have programmed the software to send a power surge and fry the phone. IS this true or just lies?

Hahahahahaha thats the funniest thing I’ve heard in a long time. Yes its true and the bogie man will come and tickle you to death until you relinquish your iPhone and go with an official carrier.

I jest - please don’t be gullible! As if ANY company would do that to its customers.

I’m on t-mobile. I plan to by the O2 PAYG option next week. If I use the piggy back SIM will I still get the following services that I already get from t-mobile:
    - access to email (via POP3 or IMAP4)
    - access to my t-mobile text msgs and voicemail
I look forward to hearing from you and purchasing the SIM
Hi Asif - yes you get all the above. In fact 3G on Voda, T-Mobile and Three was a lot quicker than 3G on our o2 iPhone - what gives??

I have emailed a few times to short ones and oneat length. so I have been trying. I spoke to jody a while ago and I support what you guys do. which is why I’m surprised I have not been sent a reply to my emails about the piggyback some.

my question is will the store be selling the piggyback sim?

Absolutely - we will have the sims in stock in our London store from Monday onwards. Just pop by.

is that possible and if not how do I purchase the sim (I’ve emailed already)?

    September 11, 2008 at 6:27 am

    Hi Gary

    Sorry for the delay.

The problem with the software solution is that it is a HACK - trying to find a backdoor into the iPhone radio baseband.

Its not like trying to, say, develop Adobe Photoshop where you have milestones and goals and have an approximation of how far release is. We are not developing some huge app that is taking months, we are simply trying to find a backdoor and we haven’t found one yet.

Once a backdoor is found (and it WILL be found!) then it will take a couple of days at the most to release the software which will be a simple app that runs on your iPhone via Cydia. Everything is hackable, its just a matter of time.

Hope that clarifies things - and to reiterate, I can’t unfortunately say when the software is coming.

    hay gary

im having no joy getting through to anyone at this place either. I got myself and iphone 3g on a pay as you got three weeks ago and want to use it on my monthly t-mobile instead.

im hoping they have a london office as i would prefer to pop down and pick up the piggyback sim rather then wait for the damn thing through the post.

good luck with these guys, i think it is worth buying personally because i think the software seems to be taking longer then usual so get your wares out of it now using the sim and then get the sofware sim after. i say this as it is exactly what i am going to do

HI Brandon - that’s a bit unfair! We try and answer every phone call, if you can imagine, we are pretty busy and at certain times of the day when we only have 2 people answering the phone if 3 people are calling us then one will inevitably go to voicemail. Have you tried emailing us? We DO have an office in Central London on 22 Upper Grosvenor St
London, W1K 7PE opening up Monday 29th. In the meantime, please see iPhone Clinics

Hi - Is it worth buying one of these (ie, to get 3 months plus out of it), or is the full software solution likely to be just a few weeks away?
No its not a few weeks away. Its definitely worthwhile getting one.
