Apple Release iPhone 2.2.1

Apple have quietly released a small update to the iPhone software – iPhone update 2.2.1. This fixes a couple of bugs, but it is important you don’t update until you read below.
First-Gen customers
Our software can still fully unlock this iPhone for use with any sim, you can safely update within iTunes. If you use Cydia, just run our latest unlocking tool located in the Unlocking Area.
iPhone 3G customers
It is imperative that if you are already software unlocked, or wish to use our software unlock, that you do not update to this version as it closes the exploit which we use. If you have already upgraded, or you have purchased a new iPhone 3G which comes with 2.2.1 installed, then you will need to purchase our software and piggyback sim combination as the piggyback is required for the network unlock.
The cost of this is £28.99 and can be purchased here

Hi Guys,
Dont know if I have done the right thing, I have purchased your software unlock for 3G with the above software versions. Running a piggy back sim, working OK out in the middle east on local PAYG. My understanding is that when OS 3 comes out I can upgrade through ITunes to OS 3 and unlock the phone using the 3G software unlock. Stupid question do I have to have the piggy back sim and the local sim installed for this to work?
Thanks
Dave

Yesterday it was working as normal and just because i updated in itunes it has reverted back to factory settings i think, but is there no way of getting it back to how it was yesterday without buying more software or hardware to get it back?
NB: how much will it cost me to get a piggyback simpack and/or updated software unlock (also when nxt week is this out)

I HAVE BEEN WITHOUT A LAPTOP FOR 3 MONTHS, I FINALLY GOT ONE YESTERDAY AND SAW THAT WITHIN ITUNES I COULD UPDATE TO 2.2.1 FROM MY PREVIOUSLY UPDATED 2.2.
WITHOUT EVEN THINKING I DID THIS IN ITUNES AND CANNOT GET MY IPHONE TO WORK AGAIN. IT’S SCREEN IS LOCKED ON THE EMERGENCY CALLS ONLY SCREEN WITH A MESSAGE SAYING ‘INSERT A VALID SIM WITH NO PIN LOCK TO ACTIVATE IPHONE’
I AM SUCK AND HAVE USED QUICKPWN BUT THIS WILL NOT UNLOCK MY IPHONE. I HAE EVEN DOWNGRADED WITHIN ITUNES USING A PREVIOUS METHOD (SHIFT RESTORE ETC) AND EVEN EMAIL WITH THIS QUERY AND ALL I GOT BACK WAS I NEED TO DOWNGRADE, WHICH FOUND HOW TO DO MYSELF. THIS STILL WOMT GET ME BACK TO THE USABLE IPHONE MENU SCREENS.
CAN ANY ONE HELP ME I WOULD BE SOOOOOOOOO GRATEFUL, THIS IS PROPER WINDING ME UP NOW!
REGARDS
HAYD
Hi Hayden
You can purchase a piggyback sim card from us now which will get you up and
all
running with calls and texts, and then next week when Apple release version
3.0 for you you will get a full software unlock allowing 3G data etc
at version 3.0

I have a 2008 model iPhone 3G, Version 2.2 (5G77), modem firmware: 02.30.03, Bootloader version 5.9.
Is this going to be a pure software unlock, or will I also need to piggyback sim too. (does it involve any cutting of my SIM card?)
Currently a piggyback sim for that baseband, but once version 3.0 is out the door, a software unlock will soon follow, as the new baseband is exploitable.

JUst to be clear I ment that i dont have a sim card and when i updated i got a message that said ” insert valid sim with NO pin lock to activate Iphone” the £14.99 software will fix this without a sim or do i need that “piggyback card”?
That’s fine! You just need the £14.99 software. Piggybacks are only required for 3G iPhones running 2.2.1.

Hi Nick – of course, you just need our £14.99 software, you’ll be unlocked again within minutes.

Hi There, I am about to purchase a new 3G iphone from a UK store and i understand I will need to purchase your piggyback SIM solution. My question is: Once the phone have been jailbroken with your software and I am using the piggyback SIM, will I be able to browse the internet on the iphone at 3G speeds? I am currently a UK T-Mobile customer.
If not, then when and if a software unlock becomes availalble for 3.0 will i be able to browse at 3G speeds then?
Many thanks
Hi Dan – no piggyback sim enables 3G speeds unfortunately. The software unlock version 3.0 will certainly allow 3G speeds however
. Just use the piggyback in the meantime, and use wifi when you want to go on the net.

I have been using your software unlock for my iPhone 3g version 2.2 firmware 02.28.00 baseband for some time now and everything has been running perfectly (thank you).
Can you tell me if it’s safe to update iTunes to 8.1.1 and Mac OS X to 10.5.7? I’m currently running 8.0.2(iTunes) and 10.5.6 (Mac).
Thanks
Paul
Hi Paul – its perfectly safe! In fact 10.5.7 solves the DFU issue so its recommended.

I bought a new iPhone 3G from Carphone Warehouse recently and it’s running on 2.2.1. I went to China Town in London to jailbreak it. I didn’t know which software they’d used to jailbreak but it seemed that I still could not use my iPhone in another country. It has a piggyback sim, however it still doesn’t work. Is it possible to buy your software and piggyback sim and try to jailbreak it second time?? Will it work?
Regards,
Eric
Hi Eric – our £28.99 pack will work in this instance. You may even be able to use our software to unlock WITOUT needing a piggyback – it depends on the Bootloader of the iPhone, which is pot luck to be honest. Either way, the £28.99 pack contains everything you need, and the software will let you know if you need a piggyback sim card or not.

I have a new o2 iphone3g running 2.2.1 (5H11) and firmware 02.30.03 and i being naive got the unlock /jailbreak software from http://www.iphoneunlocking.com. the phone jailbreak appears to have worked but unlock with yellowsn0w didnt. If I now purchase your sim will the phone be unlocked or do I have to do more ?
regards
Charlie
Hi Charlie, if its a 2008 iPhone you can use our £19.99 software to downgrade it, otherwise you need the £28.99 piggyback solution. Please note that MOST iPhones sold in the UK, apart from Apple stores, are still 2008 models! Which means software unlock for all!

Hi I brought my iPhone 3g from a friend and it was already networked unlocked. ANYWAY very stupidly i accidentley upgraded to this new version 2.2.1!!!!! ooopppsss!!! via iTunes. Now I can only make emergency calls and itunes says: THE SIM CARD IN THIS PHONE DOES NOT SEEM TO BE SUPPORTED – ONLY COMPATIBLE SIM CARDS FROM A SUPPORTED CARRIER MAY BE USED TO ACTIVATE THE iPHONE. PLEASE INSERT THE SIM CARD THAT CAME WITH YOUR PHONE OR VISIT A SUPPORTED CARRIERS STORE TO RECEIVE A REPLACEMENT SIM CARD. What the hell happened??? i use o2 (uk) pay as you go and i am amazed this is not accepted as it origanlly can as o2 contract.
How can i solve this issue?
Thanks in advanced MEGAN
Hi Megan – just get our £19.99 solution, it will unlock for you with software if you have accidentally upgraded.

Hi, I am always a bit nervous in case I do something stupid . I am rumming my 3g on 2.2 and cydia is showing 12 changes on my screen shall I go ahead with all of these
Hi Kate – you can upgrade if you like, it probably won’t make an iota of difference to anything though. If everything is working as you expect then I wouldn’t bother. Version 3.0 is coming out soon anyway.

I have a 3g iphone unopened in box, from ebay
When I switch it on I can’t find what firmware or baseband etc as no way to access phone it says – No Sim – Connect to itunes
when i put in sim it says – connect to itunes
connecting to itunes it says –
1 – activate
2 – get itunes account
3 – add stuff to iphone – music apps etc
so can i use your solution to allow me to access the phone and use a sim ?
Or must I use some way of activating the phone (without going to itunes and paying ) first and then use your unlock
Or will your solution activate the phone and allow me to use any sim in the UK ?
Thanks
Brian
Hi Brian – just get our £19.99 solution which will activate the iPhone. You can then find out what firmware it is running. If its 2.2 or earlier, great, our software unlock will work. Otherwise no problem, just purchase our piggyback sim which is available within your account separately for the special price of £10.00 to existing customers.

Looking for comment on what is possible on the Verizon network in the US. Will your solution with software and piggy back work? I currently have a Blackberry World edition 8830 and a Verizon provided sim card that goes with it. Will my sim card from Verizon allow your solution to put an iPhone on the Verizon network here in the US and access GSM? Thanks!
Hi Nathan – I don’t believe that either the Verizon or Sprint networks are compatible with the iPhone. They use non-standard frequencies.

I’m interested in your unlocking system for my 3G iphone and I have several questions:
• My service provider is T-Mobile and I am currently using an unlock sim alone which works OK except I can only connect on 2G (gprs) will your system give me the full 3G connection with T-Mobile?
Depends what country you are in. T-Mobile 3G in the US isn’t compatible with the iPhone, but is in Europe.
• Is there anything that won’t work on the iphone with your unlock system?
Nope it all works.
• You mention in the site that it will not invalidate the Apple warranty why do you say this as I understand that Jail breaking the phone will do this?
Of course if you take a jailbroken iPhone in for a repair they will refuse to honour the warranty – but you are only a restore away in iTunes from removing the jailbreak!
• With a Jail broken phone, can I still use I tunes?
Of course
• Can you confirm what happens when Apple release a new firmware version are you saying that I will get ongoing unlocks to future Apple firmware also does this include the piggy back sim if a new version is needed?
The piggyback sim is upgradeable, so you simply send it back and we reprogramme it, you simply pay for the return postage (i.e. enclose stamp addressed envelope). All software unlocks are provided in your account. You simply login to get them.
• As I have the very latest firmware if I use the software will anything work before I receive the piggy back sim?
It will be jailbroken, nothing more.
I look forward to hearing from you.

Please can you tell me when the new software will be out for unlocking the 2.2.1 new firmware?
Thanks
Chris
There is no timeframe – you will need our piggyback sim currently. You will probably need to wait for 2.3 (which may contain a bigger baseband update, and hence an exploit) for a software unlock, obviously we don’t know when Apple will release this.

i just got my iphone today which is 2.2.1, as i know in order to unlock it we need a software & piggyback sim..will u guys come out with just a software unlock without the piggyback sim? trying not to use piggyback sim thanks
2.2.1 is not unlockable with software – version 3.0 will be unlockable as it contains a large baseband update.

Hi I bought my iphone 2g from a friend unlocked, I don’t know how he unlocked it. Now I accidentally upgraded to 2.2.1 and only emergency calls. Will I be able to unlock it back with any of your packages?
Of course, nice and easy – just £14.99 or £29.99 with our application pack.

I purchased the 3G 16GB. I needed some support so at the Apple Store, they upgraded it to the 2.2.1 version. Can I safely unlock it now? I’m not a tech person, so if I can is it easy and what if I need to upgrade in the future?
Thank you,
Jane
Yes, but you will need our piggyback sim. They’re a good interim solution whilst the software unlock is being developed.

Those of us who don’t have Macs and therefore can’t use Pwnage to create a custom IPSW rely on you to do that for us (in fact that;s one of the main reasons I purchased). When do you think that will be available for download for 2.2.1?

I have used your software in Jan to unlock to vodafone . I have just been prompted by cydia to upgrade your software which I have done
Does this mean I can now upgrade to 2.2.1 using Itunes
regards
Al
It most certainly does NOT! Upgrading to 2.2.1 will remove the software unlock and also any chance of a software unlock in the near future! Please remain at 2.2. We will be releasing custom firmware to take you to 2.2.1 without updating the baseband (i.e. not using iTunes)

Dear Jody, i have a 2G iphone which has been locked for quite some time now. I did an update for the new 2.2.1 firmware, without holding the alt button on a mac and it restored the original settings. And now, its giving me a different error (2001, 21) each time i am trying to unlock. My mac is 10.5.6. Please any suggestions, i am using your software for more than a year now ! Thank you.

Hi
Bought my phone at the beginning of the month, and I’d now like to Jailbreak it. However, I’m on version 2.2.1, is there a way of reverting back to version 2.2 without any hiccups? I stupidly upgraded in iTunes as per previous threads, oh if I’d of known what I do now. lol
Hi Brett – sadly not, but you can easily jailbreak with our software, and then use the piggyback sim to unlock it?

Hi
I am currently on version 2.1 and would like to upgrade to 2.2.1 as there are some apps that will not load onto my iphone.
I originally unlocked my iphone back in Nov using your piggy back sim solution.
Do you know when the software solution will be available so i can update my phone?
Update to 2.2 (using the instructions on the site) NOT 2.2.1, and software unlock. Custom firmware taking to 2.2.1 without updating the baseband will be coming shortly.
