Has anyone bought a 3G iPhone in the states ($199 for the 8Gb and $299 for the 16Gb versions) and availed of AT&T's $175 contract cancellation fee?

That would make the total cost about $375 for the 8GB or $475 (€305 or £240) for the 16GB - which would seem pretty good.

Has anyone tried this?

jody,

I managed to retire my 3g using the custom ipsw file, but when I try different network sim cards all I get is "invalid sim" flashing quickly where the o2 normally is and then just getting a line of dots, so not picking up the network signal, do I need to try again or do you have issues with the firmware??? Thanks

Regards
